You may be wondering why there were no photos accompanying the Sunday article From Koh Kong To Prey Nob. Well, I was rather busy then and only had time to write - I can write very quickly and finish the story in a few minutes, but photos needed to be sorted to find the best ones, resized, and watermarked, and arranged in the right chronological order, and uploaded, and captioned and...whew, that can take a whole night.
Anyway, this blog gets lots of visits because of the photos, and there were so many comments about the pics of oranges I posted yesterday. I'd no idea those oranges were such a hit! (Thanks to all who commented, and e-mail and RSS subscribers, do visit the blog to read 'em! You don't know what you're missing.) Sometimes, sniff, sniff, I wonder if anyone appreciates my writing any more. I love to write, but I don't think I'm a very good photographer. Still learning!
Back to the subject, and here... ta da! are the photos of the first leg of our journey from Koh Kong to Prey Nob. Total 40 pics. Enjoy!
This is our hotel - the Asean Hotel, and our dark blue van parked in front of it. I went outside at 550am in the morning. 550am in Cambodia was, of course, 650am in Singapore. My hotel room was the one on the top floor, third balcony from the left. It's already reserved for me... my very own hotel room. I stayed there both trips.
Another view of our van, with Roti,
our experienced driver, at the wheel.
The Kohkongcity Hotel, opposite the Asean Hotel. Even though the Kohkongcity Hotel is much newer and looks grander, we always stay at the Asean Hotel. Do you want to know why? Yeah, I have my hotel room reserved, of course, but the story's a lot more than that! Will tell you another time.
One of the new signs along the road outside our hotel.
6am and we were on our way at last. Here's a beautiful little house in the middle of nowhere as we hustled along the road.
...and a um... not so beautiful house we passed, also in the middle of nowhere.
The winding road.
At about 625am, we reached the river, and saw the completed bridge.
We detoured away from the bridge and to the river bank.
A stall by the river. Coconuts, anyone?
What about bananas? Pastor Vic and Pastor Noe waiting for the river ferry.
A closer look at the completed bridge. Why oh why isn't it opened yet??
Roti and a curious passer-by at the van.
The peaceful river.
We saw the river ferry, at the other side.
The muddy ground! Thankfully, it had not been raining and was not so bad!
Our river ferry on the way to our side of the river!
Here is Marissa on her way to the restroom.
But she decided not to use it! Why?? Did she
see me pointing my camera at her?
The barge finally arrived!

There's Marissa waiting by the coconut stall.
Roti backed the van into the barge. Very good driver, this chap was, else the van would have ended in the river!
We all got onto the barge. Marissa pointing at something. What is it?
Oh I see! The toilet by the river, which she didn't use! She told me the little bridge to get across to it looked too dangerous, and she wasn't about to go splashing into the river while trying to make her way to it!
A last view of the little community by the river, before the barge pulled away.
A leisurely ride across the river.
Some of us on the barge.
The barge driver.
A closer view of the bridge.
It's beautiful.
Houses by the river.
Marissa enjoying the ride.
Finally, we were on the other side! It was 655am.
The shops along the river bank.
We were soon on our way.... to the next river crossing!
