Our first tour in Israel was a short cruise on the Sea of Galilee in the morning. The water was so calm, with not a wave in sight, that it looked like we all could have walked on it.
A little comment made on the previous post compared it to other lakes, and mentioned nature and nice stories, but... I didn't go to the Sea of Galilee to see nature and hear fairy tales. I think I've seen bigger and more impressive lakes and more beautiful nature elsewhere, although offhand I can't name any.
But the Sea of Galilee... I read about it all the time, I have tried to visualise what it had been two thousand years ago (not stories, but REAL historical events!) - the disciples frequently fishing in the sea, our Lord sailing on it from shore to shore, preaching, teaching and healing the masses, and, of course, walking on the water, and the storm which came in the midst and which He calmed with three words - Peace, be still.
The lake was so still and calm that day.
The Sea of Galilee is the largest freshwater lake in Israel and at about 200 meters below sea level, it is also the lowest freshwater lake in the world. It is the second lowest lake in the world, if you count the Dead Sea, a very salty-water lake we had a splash and a float in.
Ahh... we had no chance to float or walk or even touch a drop of the Sea of Galilee, because we were all ushered into a large wooden boat for a nice little cruise.
That's our wooden boat.
Getting some help into the boat.
Philip, our tour guide, showing us a map of the sea of Galilee, where we were and where we were going.
Here we had our first service, and enjoyed the cool breeze, and all too soon it was over. However, we saw the lake several times every day, whenever we came and went and visited the towns and churches and excavations in this northern part of Israel.
More wooden boats with tourists.
A service during the cruise; Deacon Eddy leading us in a few songs.

Hey Deb, thanks for those great pictures. Reminds me of my trip to Istanbul a couple of years back.

Great photos! Do those boats have a toilet on board? I'm headed there before long and I need to know. I can't wait to see where Jesus walked and preached.
