Bug Story

This is a bug story, courtesy of Lisa, and here she is, admiring flowers at the Central Market in Phnom Penh (not sure if there were any bugs on them or not, though!) whwn we were last there two months ago. And she was also the one caught feasting with a durian seed in each hand not too long ago.

It's only this year that I started travelling with her as part of our team, can you believe it? And that's after nearly ten years of knowing each other.

Where was I? Oh yes, the bug story. Well, one day, a cute little bug called a praying mantis flew into Lisa's apartment, and in trying to get him outside, she whacked him so hard that his head fell off. Now, Lisa claimed she liked bugs (but would not eat them, especially the ones above) and she would never kill any of them intentionally. She was simply trying to get the cute little fellow outside, back to his own natural environment, but unfortunately, her 'gentle' shooing resulted in his untimely death. Hmm, ok, so it was manslaughter, not premeditated murder.

A few days later, at a bookstore, she found a book about endangered species in Singapore, and lo and behold, horror of horrors, in that book she found a picture of the praying mantis, dressed in the exact same colours as the one she had killed (did she say he was pink and green with red polka-dots and the dreamiest blue eyes, I'm not sure).

And so, the next time Lisa goes to Cambodia, to atone for her sins, perhaps she'll eat a bug but will not kill any of them any more, not even a mosquito. Especially if they are endangered species.

Actually... isn't it wonderful that we don't need to 'atone for our sins' any more, because Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures!

This made me laugh. Very well written! I still have an image in my head of a polka dot headless mantis. HA! Blessings.
