Campus Evangelism

When our team left for the Philippines last Saturday, they didn't dream the impossible. They only asked God to let them reach 40,000 students with the gospel during the five weeks of evangelism in the campuses and colleges of the Philippines.

The campaign started on Monday, and the four-day report total so far was: over 11,000 heard the Word preached in their classrooms, and over 8,000 made decisions for the Lord! The most amazing story to be told was on their first day at the campus in Bayawan.

The evangelistic team of Singaporeans, Filipinos and Americans had to journey over 2 hours in the early morning to get to that campus. When they got there... what happened? The school authorities renegaded on their promise! No, no, the students have been sent out to work on some kind of summer spring cleaning, they said, and you cannot interrupt their work, unless it rained and the students couldn't work.

Our team said a polite 'ok', took out their umbrellas and then went to pray. Did God answer? The result was that the work day had to be cancelled and nearly 500 heard the Good News! Read more about the campus evangelism in the Philippines in A BIG MissionWhat happens during campus evangelism - first we get a letter signed by important education authorities, second we show up at the doorway of a classroom as the lesson was in session, third we politely interrupt the teacher who is in the middle of the lesson, and show the letter, and fourth, the teacher steps aside to allow an evangelism team member (usually a foreigner) to take over the class for half an hour to tell the students something called The Good News!

At the end of it, the students are asked to make decisions, and for those who did, their particulars are taken down for further follow up, and they are invited to the campus christian fellowship meetings.
