Kambing

I think most of us in our part of the world is familiar with the kambing soup. Yum, yum!

When I was visiting one of the SMCI (Student Movement for Christ) centers in the Philippines, my experienced driver saw these near the path of our big van....... and someone said 'don't run over the kambings!'. And that was when I learnt - eh, you mean, in the Filipino language (Tagalog or Cebuano?) you also called these guys kambings? Ok, that's easy to remember!

Well, we won't make them into soup any time yet, but we sure will snap some cute pics with them!

The 10/40 Window is an area of the world extending from 10 degrees north to 40 degrees north of the equator, and includes countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. It is home to about 4.1 billion people i.e two-thirds of the world's population. 95% of the people living here are unevangelised.

Statistics show that about 8% of the missionary efforts and less than half of 1% of the budget of our churches go to reach the peoples in the 10/40 Window. There is a great need for the Good News in these lands. Sometimes referred to as The Resistance Belt, the 10/40 Window is also known as the Window of Opportunity.

ABOUT THE TENFORTY BLOG

My name is Deborah, and this blog is a personal journal of my travels in some of the countries in the 10/40 Window. I am not a missionary (in the strict sense of the word), and blog visitors looking for information on specific ministries or missionary activities may not find it here.

Because of the sensitivity of doing His Work in some of these places and to protect the workers on the field, names of people, places as well as detailed descriptions of the nature of the ministries which they are involved in may often not be specifically mentioned.

Instead, you will find many interesting, unusual and sometimes amusing photos and personal stories about my experiences, thoughts and observations as I accompany the team on adventures and expeditions on and off the beaten track, and as we go shopping, eating, sightseeing and visiting.

There will also be insights into the culture and history of these lands. These, I trust, will be sufficient to open your eyes to "look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest", and spare a thought and a prayer for the 4.1 billion people in the 10/40 Window.
